Joints such as butt welds, fillet welds and different thicknesses and loading types, fatigue tests of welding seams result in a big scatter on S-N scale in comparison to base materials.
To reduce this scatter, different types of post-processing calculation techniques are developed.
By using one of these techniques, this scatter can be reduced to a manageable amount of S-N curves.
After this, corresponding standard and its safety concepts must be applied. Since there is considerable amount of structural stress calculation techniques and various standards, the outcome leads to very scattered results for the same welding seam.
In this project example structural stresses have been identified based on actual 3D geometry with detail weld models.
